Emma Willard School opens community life spaces

Saturday, 29 September 2007

Troy, NY – “Thank you for our new home!” read the banner held by students at the formal dedication and tour of the Emma Willard School’s new community life spaces on its historic campus.

The dedication was part of the school’s Celebration 2007 weekend. Other highlights of the weekend included the “Women, Power, and Responsibility” symposium and the We Are Emma celebration.

The renovation of the first and ground floor spaces in Sage/Hyphen/Kellas Halls encompasses a renovation and dining room addition. The dining room was designed to create a “welcoming hearth” for students, with a feel akin to that of a kitchen in a very large stately home. The design integrates health and wellness into other elements of intellectual life of the campus. Good nutrition is provided a cultural context, in a setting that is both uplifting and convivial. The second phase includes the creation of multi-purpose areas, with an e-cafe, student lounge, and academic support spaces, including the new Sage Study and Student Center.
