Shepley featured in new book on innovative office environments

Monday, 7 April 2008

Shepley Bulfinch’s open and collaborative Boston office and design studio wins kudos in the newly published book, Innovations in Office Design: The Critical Influence Approach to Effective Work Environments, by Diane Stegmeier (John Wiley & Sons, Inc).

The firm’s Seaport District office is cited as an exemplar of workplace design, inspiring collaboration, information exchange, and the generation of new ideas. Attention is drawn to the office’s clustering spaces for scheduled and spontaneous interaction, where staff members cross paths while arriving for a planned project meeting, an impromptu team brainstorming session, or a casual one-on-one dialogue. The open environment fosters a culture in which Shepley staff can easily leverage the creativity and insight of colleagues, which fosters collaboration.

Stegmeier’s book reveals findings from her ten-year workplace research study, examining key factors fostering a sustainable platform for change and introducing the influences that can enable or hinder the development, execution and outcomes of workplace strategies.

She is speaking at a workshop on sustaining change at the American Institute of Architects’ national convention in Boston in May 2008.

Diane Stegmeier’s writing is rich in academic research, drawing connections between graduate research on Leading Organizational Change and postgraduate study on innovation and organizational change at Harvard, Duke, Bowling Green, and Case Western Reserve Universities.

Stegmeier Consulting Group is a consultancy centered on change management and organizational effectiveness, and has been engaged by clients throughout North America and Western Europe seeking to leverage human capital and pursue performance optimization in the workplace.
