The center was dedicated in 2009, the centennial year for this independent girlsí school. The schoolís rich history informed the project design, which drew inspiration from the proportion and detail of nearby McBee House, the campusí iconic structure. The Library occupies two floors of the new building, while the third floor and renovated space in adjoining Jenkins Hall house the Science Center. A glass-walled connector (photo, above) joins the two buildings. The project is pursuing LEED Silver certification.
Shepley Bulfinch was the project’s design architect in association with Goff DíAntonio Associates of Charleston. The Center is the first phase of the implementation of Ashley Hallís Master Plan, completed by Shepley Bulfinch in 2006.
