Shepley repeats with strong national rankings for architecture, green design

Friday, 2 July 2010

Architectural Record and Engineering News-Record magazines once again ranked Shepley Bulfinch among the top architecture and green design firms in the US in their latest annual surveys published in the two magazines this week. The rankings are based on revenues in 2009, a challenging year for the industry.

Architectural Record put Shepley at #79 among A/E/C firms based on total architectural revenue in its survey of the country’s 250 leading design firms.

ENR ranked Shepley Bulfinch at #89 in its annual survey of Top 100 Green Design Firms, based on 2009 revenues from projects registered or actively seeking certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and other major third-party environmental standards organizations.

Sustainable milestones in 2009 included the opening of Sherman Hospital (Elgin, Illinois), with its 15-acre geothermal lake; Smilow Cancer Hospital (New Haven, Connecticut), which is pursuing LEED certification; the Lovett School’s Portman Family Middle School (Atlanta, Georgia), an EnergyStar project pursuing LEED certification; the Media and Science Center for Ashley Hall School (Charleston, SC), which is pursuing a minimum of LEED Silver; and the BREEAM-rated McClay Library at Queen’s University (Belfast, Northern Ireland). In addition, two projects at Duke University received LEED certification last year.

Shepley Bulfinch’s Boston office received LEED-CI Silver certification in 2007. The firm has been a corporate member of the US Green Building Council since 2001 and is a signatory to the 2030 Challenge and the AIA 2030 Commitment.
