New library for Ringling College of Art + Design

Shepley Bulfinch will be designing a new library for Ringling College of Art + Design in Sarasota, Florida, as a “locus for learning” for the design school’s creative community.

The new library is a milestone project for Ringling, which has expanded significantly in recent years, and will be the first building executed as part of the College’s campus master plan. The 50,000 square foot library, which will be located on a new site on campus, will quadruple the space of the present 12,000 square foot Kimbrough Library, which opened in 1980.

Salem State library marks construction milestone

The construction of the Library and Learning Commons at Salem State University marked a major milestone today, as the structure was topped off with the last steel beam put in place. In keeping with tradition, an American flag (right) was hoisted to the top of the building, accompanied by a small tree.

The 122,000 s.f. library project is pursuing a minimum of LEED Silver certification. The firm’s other LEED certified university projects include Marquette Law School; additions to Perkins Library at Duke University; and Duke Library at Furman. Shepley Bulfinch also ...[more]

Topping-off ceremony for Brody Learning Commons

Johns Hopkins marked a milestone in the completion of the Brody Learning Commons with a May 9 topping-off ceremony. The symbolic last steel beam, bearing hundreds of signatures of members of the Hopkins community, was hoisted into place at the end of the event.
