Designing the future of pediatric medicine

Boston Children’s Hospital,
Hale Family Clinical Building

Boston, MA
In 1912, we broke ground on our first project with Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH). More than a century later, we’re partnering with BCH again, this time to spearhead the largest expansion in its history.
The Hale Family Clinical Building will improve specialized care at BCH, address increased patient acuity, and ultimately lead the future of pediatric medicine. The project reimagines a streamlined perioperative platform with flexible and dedicated operating rooms, and combines the Hospital’s Heart Center services onto a single platform—all with the focus of optimizing the patient experience.
New green spaces—including ground level, interior, and roof gardens—provide tranquil places for patients and families to think, reflect, and heal.
BCH staff participated in a 40,000-sf “cardboard city” simulation exercise to find new ways to improve patient and staff journeys.
The single-floor platform of cardiac diagnostic and treatment encourages collaboration and enhances quality of care. All operating rooms will be multidisciplinary, and all bed units will be ICU capable.
