Danvers, MA – A ground breaking celebration was held today for the new Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care in this North Shore community outside of Boston.
The 122,000-square-foot outpatient facility and 80,000-square-foot medical office building are a joint project for North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The center will provide the latest in cardiac diagnostics, suites for minimally invasive surgery, and advanced imaging services, as well as serve as the expanded home of the new MGH–NSMC Cancer Center.

Detroit celebrated its new home for pediatric specialty care today with blowing bubbles, a youth chorus, and a marching band at the Grand Opening of Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center on the campus of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC).
The $43 million specialty center represents the first completed structure following Vanguard Health Systems’ acquisition of DMC and marks the first major expansion for the campus in nearly 30 years.

Design is now underway for Bridgeport Hospital’s Park Avenue Campus Outpatient Center in Trumbull, which will provide a new level of access to quality outpatient care in southwestern Connecticut.
The center’s range of services will include a comprehensive cancer center, including medical oncology and radiation services and a breast care center, ambulatory surgery, gastroenterology services, full service radiology, a Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Specialty Center, rehabilitation, and other physician offices. The new facility will create a welcoming, accessible outpatient care campus, joining two existing buildings that house radiation oncology and medical offices, in a park-like suburban setting.

Shepley Bulfinch has begun schematic design for the new Health and Biomedical Science Center for the University of Houston’s College of Optometry.
The 167,600 s.f. state-of-the-art research and patient eye care center will include an ambulatory surgical center, laser center, specialized research labs, offices, seminar spaces, a new conference facility, and classrooms. It will be located adjacent to the J. Davis Armistead Building on the southern end of the University’s main campus. Principals Jennifer Aliber and Angela Watson discuss the creation of therapeutic environments in their contribution to the new book, Design for Critical Care: An Evidence-Based Approach by Kirk Hamilton and Mardelle Shepley. Jennifer and Angela discuss the impact of evidence-based design on patient safety and the quality of care in acute-care facilities.
The book was published by Architectural Press, an imprint of Elsevier, in September.

BOSTON, MA – The Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care was recognized with a Merit Award last night at the 2009 Build New England Awards by AGC of Massachusetts, the Association of Commercial and Institutional Builders. Principal Angela Watson represented the firm at the ceremony.
Shepley Bulfinch and general contractor Walsh Brothers were cited for “the very best in collaboration” on an ambitious project constrained by a tight schedule and budget.
The ambulatory care facility, which also houses the North Shore Cancer Center, is located just off Route 128 in Danvers. The 122,000 square foot facility opened in May 2009.

DANVERS, MA – Healthcare and community leaders gathered here last night to celebrate the completion of the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care. The project, a collaborative effort between Massachusetts General Hospital and North Shore Medical Center has created what North Shore president Robert Norton called the facility the “largest freestanding ambulatory medical center in Massachusetts”.

Officials of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center cut the ribbon on a new Shepley Bulfinch-designed Outpatient Surgery Center (OSC) on June 17.
The ribbon cutting was part of a public open house for the OSC, which officially opened to patients on June 22. The open house included tours of the facility and demonstrations of operating room technologies.
