Terrazzo design award for Children’s Wisconsin

Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin has won a National Honor Award from the National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association for the terrazzo floors in the hospital’s new West Tower in suburban Milwaukee, which opened in April 2009.

The hospital’s floors, which depict natural elements, were created as a way to transport children from the hospital setting to places in nature, with imagery drawn from botanical and wild life of Wisconsin. Law school’s transformative impact recognized

Campbell University and the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law were honored by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) as a recipient of the Alliance’s 2010 Imprint Award at a ceremony on February 25. Campbell treasurer Jim Roberts and law school dean Melissa Essary accepted the award on behalf of the university. Shepley Bulfinch, the project’s design architect, and associate architect Small Kane were also recognized during the presentation, together with the general contractor and project engineers.

The Imprint Award recognizes new construction and renovation projects completed in the previous year that significantly contribute to the identity of downtown Raleigh. Campbell was honored for its $32 million investment in locating the Wiggins ...[more]

Smilow Cancer Hospital receives Green Business Award

Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital has been named a winner in the Connecticut Green Business Awards. The cancer hospital, which began seeing its first patients late last year, took top honors in the “New Construction” category.

Smilow Cancer Hospital is one of 25 businesses, organizations, and individuals recognized with Green Business Awards, which were announced in a feature in the January issue of the Connecticut Business News Journal. Mass General/North Shore receives AGC merit award

BOSTON, MA – The Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care was recognized with a Merit Award last night at the 2009 Build New England Awards by AGC of Massachusetts, the Association of Commercial and Institutional Builders. Principal Angela Watson represented the firm at the ceremony.

Shepley Bulfinch and general contractor Walsh Brothers were cited for “the very best in collaboration” on an ambitious project constrained by a tight schedule and budget.

The ambulatory care facility, which also houses the North Shore Cancer Center, is located just off Route 128 in Danvers. The 122,000 square foot facility opened in May 2009.

University project named among Best of 2009 New Mexico

PHOENIX, AZ – The renovation and addition of O’Donnell Hall, home to New Mexico State University’s School of Education, was named “Best of 2009 New Mexico” by Southwest Contractor magazine. The annual competition, now in its 12th year, recognizes design and construction excellence in New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada.

Project teams will be honored at an awards ceremony in Albuquerque December 8. O’Donnell Hall will also be among the winning projects profiled in the December 2008 issue of the magazine.

At O’Donnell Hall’s September 2008 dedication, Michael Morehead, the College’s interim dean, called it “a magnificent building and… a place where future educators can learn and thrive in a tremendous facility”. He ...[more]

Geothermal lake wins $956k US Department of Energy award

WASHINGTON, DC – Sherman Hospital has received a $956,000 award from the US Department of Energy for its geothermal lake at the hospital’s new campus in Elgin, Illinois. The hospital is scheduled to open at the end of the year. In announcing the receipt of the award today, Sherman president and CEO Rick Floyd said, “Sherman Health is honored to receive this award… Our lake is environmentally sound, and we look forward to supporting green energy initiatives in our community and throughout the country.”

The award was funded through the FY08 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, and was designated as one of 117 congressionally directed projects within the Department’s Office ...[more]
