Lahey Clinic dedicates new cancer center

The Sophia Gordon Cancer Center at Lahey Clinic was dedicated in a ceremony today in Burlington, Massachusetts. The 50,000 s.f. outpatient cancer center includes a radiation therapy suite and hematology suite, as well as a patient educaiton and family resource area.

The new center is a major part of the Lahey Clinic’s 190,000 s.f. expansion project. In addition to designing the Gordon Cancer Center, Shepley Bulfinch created the master plan for the Lahey Clinic campus in Burlington.

BOSTON, MA — Massey Cancer Center’s new Research Laboratory at Virginia Commonwealth University opened its doors on May 6th in honor of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Goodwin, Jr. for their generous support.

Designed by Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott, the Goodwin lab facility is designed to promote greater collaboration and attract new researchers to its growing research program. The VCU Massey Cancer Center, one of 61 National Cancer Institute-designated research institutions, is VCU’s focal point for basic and clinical cancer research, education, prevention and treatment.

Yale-New Haven Hospital Gets Green Light for Cancer Center

BOSTON, MA — Yale-New Haven Hospital has received approval from the City of New Haven to proceed with the construction of its new, Comprehensive Cancer Center, designed by Shepley Bulfinch.

The 14-story, $430 million Yale-New Haven Cancer Center will reinforce Yale-New Haven Hospital’s reputation as a top-ranking cancer center and provide the region with a state-of-the-art diagnostic, treatment and research facility. New outpatient center for Bridgeport Hospital

Design is now underway for Bridgeport Hospital’s Park Avenue Campus Outpatient Center in Trumbull, which will provide a new level of access to quality outpatient care in southwestern Connecticut.

The center’s range of services will include a comprehensive cancer center, including medical oncology and radiation services and a breast care center, ambulatory surgery, gastroenterology services, full service radiology, a Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Specialty Center, rehabilitation, and other physician offices. The new facility will create a welcoming, accessible outpatient care campus, joining two existing buildings that house radiation oncology and medical offices, in a park-like suburban setting.

Smilow Cancer Hospital dedicated

NEW HAVEN, CT – Smilow Cancer Hospital was dedicated at Yale-New Haven Hospital today, giving southern New England its most comprehensive care facility.

Speakers at the dedication of the 511,000 square foot, 14-story cancer center included Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell, Yale-New Haven Hospital president Marna Borgstrom, Yale President Richard Levin, Yale Medical School dean Robert Alpern, and philanthropist Joel Smilow (Yale ’54).

New Mass General/North Shore outpatient center celebrated

DANVERS, MA – Healthcare and community leaders gathered here last night to celebrate the completion of the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care. The project, a collaborative effort between Massachusetts General Hospital and North Shore Medical Center has created what North Shore president Robert Norton called the facility the “largest freestanding ambulatory medical center in Massachusetts”.

Located for easy access just off Route 128 north of Boston, the new Center emphasizes the delivery of state-of-the-art outpatient care with the patient in mind. Smilow Cancer Hospital featured in October’s NY Construction

NEW YORK, NY – The October issue of New York Construction magazine includes a feature on Yale-New Haven Cancer Hospital, which is now under construction.

The feature, part of the magazine’s Healthcare Overview, provides details of the 14-story building’s construction including the terra cotta exterior, which incorporates a water drainage system, or rain screen. The project, which includes a range of sustainable design and construction features, is targeting LEED certification.

Topping-off ceremony for Smilow Cancer Hospital

NEW HAVEN, CT – The last girders of the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital were hoisted into place today, in a ceremony with one of Yale-New Haven’s youngest cancer patients as a guest of honor. Hospital president Marna Nordstrom and Robert Alpern, dean of the Yale School of Medicine, were among the speakers.

When it is completed in 2010, the 14-story, 497,000 sf cancer hospital will be the most comprehensive cancer care facility in southern New England, offering state-of-the-art care and treatment.
