Shepley Bulfinch’s expansion project for Children’s Hospital Boston was named one of 12 winners of Modern Healthcare’s Award of Excellence in its 21st Annual Design Awards. The 240,000 s.f. project laterally expanded the functions of the hospital’s main building, which the firm designed in 1985, to contiguous space in the new building.

Children’s Hospital Boston: From the Mock-up Room to Reality
As part of the design of the Berthiaume Family South building, Shepley created a full-scale mock-up of an operating room and an ICU as a design conceptualization tool. This article first appeared in the March 2003 issue of Healthcare Design.
