New outpatient center for Bridgeport Hospital

Design is now underway for Bridgeport Hospital’s Park Avenue Campus Outpatient Center in Trumbull, which will provide a new level of access to quality outpatient care in southwestern Connecticut.

The center’s range of services will include a comprehensive cancer center, including medical oncology and radiation services and a breast care center, ambulatory surgery, gastroenterology services, full service radiology, a Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Specialty Center, rehabilitation, and other physician offices. The new facility will create a welcoming, accessible outpatient care campus, joining two existing buildings that house radiation oncology and medical offices, in a park-like suburban setting.

Shepley Bulfinch selected for Children’s Hospital of Buffalo

Shepley Bulfinch has been chosen for the physician-led plan to construct a new Children’s Hospital of Buffalo (NY) on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC).

“Shepley Bulfinch was selected for their expertise in designing clinically complex facilities that emphasize patient- and family-centered care and operational efficiency as well as distinctive architectural forms for many other children’s and women’s hospitals,” said Teresa Quattrin, MD, Pediatrician-in-Chief, Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, and Professor of Pediatrics, Chair, Department of Pediatrics, University of New York at Buffalo.

Construction milestone for Children’s Hospital of Michigan

In a ceremony earlier today at DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan, the final steel beam was raised to the top of the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center-Detroit.

Children’s Hospital of Michigan President Herman Gray, MD, provided an update on the specialty center’s progress. DMC President and CEO Mike Duggan joined Dr. Gray in signing the final beam. The program concluded with the traditional placement of the beam with a live evergreen tree on top of the new building.

Detroit Medical Center broke ground today for the new Specialty Center for Children’s Hospital of Michigan in a ceremony attended by federal, state, and regional legislators and community leaders. They joined Vanguard Health System’s Vice President Keith Pitts, Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan, and Children’s Hospital of Michigan President Herman Gray, MD, for the event.

MILWAUKEE, WI – The signs are up, the art is hung, and the ribbon has been cut to mark the opening today of the 12-story, 425,000 sf patient tower tower expansion for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Children’s CFO Tim Birkenstock calls the new tower “an essential step needed to keep pace with our patient service demands” for one of the country’s busiest pediatric medical centers, with more than 25,000 inpatient admissions each year.

Smilow Cancer Hospital receives LEED certification

The US Green Building Council has awarded LEED® certification to Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven in recognition of the hospital’s successful sustainable design and construction strategies. The 516,000 square foot hospital is located in downtown New Haven.

When planning for Smilow began in 2002, sustainable strategies, including LEED certification, were not widely considered attainable in healthcare, given their high energy demands and other perceived constraints.
