Troy, NY – “Thank you for our new home!” read the banner held by students at the formal dedication and tour of the Emma Willard School’s new community life spaces on its historic campus.
The dedication was part of the school’s Celebration 2007 weekend. Other highlights of the weekend included the “Women, Power, and Responsibility” symposium and the We Are Emma celebration.

Troy, NY – Phase 1 of the two-part renovation of community life spaces at the historic Emma Willard School has been completed and enthusiastically welcomed on this independent school campus in upstate New York. This phase of the renovation of first and ground floor spaces in Sage/Hyphen/Kellas encompasses a renovation and dining room addition.
The dining room was designed to create a “welcoming hearth” for students, with a feel akin to that of a kitchen in a very large stately home. In the words of one of its officers, Emma Willard epitomizes “Hollywood’s idea of a traditional European campus.” The spectacular Tudor and Gothic campus has been the setting for studio movies, the venue for a fictional contemporary private secondary school and for Oxford at the turn of the last century. BOSTON, MA — Shepley Bulfinch has been selected as architect for a series of adaptive reuse projects at the Emma Willard School. The projects mark the initial phases of a comprehensive master plan seeking to revitalize the historic campus located in Troy, NY.
The adaptive reuse project at the Gothic-style campus signifies the modernization of a school steeped in tradition. As 2014 marks the school’s bicentennial, campus improvements come at an appropriate and significant time in the school’s history.
