The LINK received a Merit Award in Interior Design magazine’s Best of the Year 2010 awards, announced in New York on December 3. The Phoenix, Arizona, mixed-use building, which was renovated in 2008, is home to Shepley Bulfinch’s Phoenix design studio.

The city of Show Low, Arizona, is buzzing about its new public library and council chambers, and is celebrating the opening with an open house, live radio broadcast, and ribbon cutting ceremony on August 17.
City manager Ed Muder said, “We’re happy to hear so many positive comments from our citizens and library patrons about this beautiful new facility. This is the first phase in our long-term plans for a civic center that will serve our citizens for many years to come.”

Merzproject’s renovation of a small 1957 office building near downtown Phoenix into the award-winning mixed-use Link is profiled in “Past Forward,” an article in the current issue of Retrofit magazine. The two-story building is a short walk from a major light rail stop, Central Library, and the Phoenix Art Museum. Construction continues on the new public library in Show Low, Arizona, with an anticipated opening this summer.
Designed by Merzproject of Phoenix, now a studio of Shepley Bulfinch, the library uses masonry and laminated timber construction that reflects the wood barn tradition of the region’s White Mountains. The design reflects an environmentally conscious approach to the project. A 150-foot long clerestory window brings daylight deep into the main hall, while other sustainable features include the use low-VOC and recycled-content finishes, high-efficiency plumbing and mechanical equipment, and regional materials, such as Arizona stone.

Shepley Bulfinch has moved up ten places to rank 39th among the nation’s leading interior design firms, according to Interior Design magazine in its “100 Giants” annual survey, published this month. The survey is based on 2009 interior design fees for major interior design firms from around the US.
In a break-out by key sectors, Shepley also ranks 6th among education design firms. The firm’s 2009 university clients include Duke, Johns Hopkins, George Mason, Atlanta University Center, Illinois Wesleyan, and the University of New Mexico. In 2009 the firm also completed ...[more]

NEW YORK, NY – The stellar year for merzproject, a studio of Shepley Bulfinch, continued on December 3, when it was named one of the winners of Interior Design Magazine’s Best of 2009 in a celebration at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
