Who says building science can’t be a competitive sport? Shepley Bulfinch, which has set the standard for building enclosure design for more than a decade, came out on top in the Air Barrier Challenge organized by the Boston Society of Architects’ (BSA) Building Enclosure Council to design and test a window installation in a wall.

The Library and Science Center at the Ashley Hall School in Charleston has received a 2010 Merit Award for Excellence in School Building and Design from CEFPI’s South Carolina chapter.

The center was dedicated in 2009, the centennial year for this independent girls’ school. The school’s rich history informed the project design, which drew inspiration from the proportion and detail of nearby McBee House, the campus’ iconic structure. Saint Peter’s College broke ground on the MacMahon Student Center October 26 in a ceremony attended by members of the college community and civic and political leaders.

In his remarks, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healey noted that the 84,000 s.f. building would be transformative not only as Saint Peter’s first student center, but also in its wider role in the revitalization of McGinley Square and Jersey City.

One of Northern Ireland’s newest landmark buildings – the McClay Library at Queen’s University Belfast in Northern Ireland – was officially opened today by one of the University’s most famous alumni, Nobel prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney.

Speaking at the event, Dr Heaney lauded the new library, saying, calling it “a lightship for scholarship…” He went on to comment on how the library represents the role of technology in transforming how students learn.

Danvers, MA – A ground breaking celebration was held today for the new Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care in this North Shore community outside of Boston.

The 122,000-square-foot outpatient facility and 80,000-square-foot medical office building are a joint project for North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The center will provide the latest in cardiac diagnostics, suites for minimally invasive surgery, and advanced imaging services, as well as serve as the expanded home of the new MGH–NSMC Cancer Center.
