In the works: Amherst College renovation underway

Thursday, 28 February 2013

Under construction - Seligman HouseThe transformation of a former Amherst College fraternity house near the main campus into a 44-bed residence hall is now underway, with plans to open in the 2013-2014 academic year.

The 21,000 square foot renovation and expansion of Seligman House, which was built in 1921, preserves the character of the original building and adds a three-story wing that complements it aesthetically. Even before today’s events, i-lab director Gordon ...[more]

Who says building science can’t be a competitive sport? Shepley Bulfinch fielded one of nine teams from architecture firms, consultants, and manufacturers’ representatives in last month’s competition. The goal was for each team to design and install a successful window-to-wall interface, perhaps the most ...[more]

Renovation and ADA compliance discussed in magazine article

Monday, 24 March 2008

Good design means that universal design doesn’t have to be obvious, says Shepley Bulfinch project architect Tricia DeLauri in “Balancing Tradition” in the March 2008 issue of College Planning and Management magazine.

She and Sara Elsa-Beech, project manager for the recently completed renovation of Charles Pratt Hall at Amherst College, discuss the challenges and opportunities when ensuring ADA compliance for historic renovation projects.
