ELGIN, IL – Sherman Hospital celebrated the mid-December opening of its new campus with a gala event last night., where Sherman administrators, community leaders, donors, and architects celebrated the imminent completion of the hospital.

The hospital is hosting community tours today. The ‘Tree of Life”, in the atrium (pictured here), and hospital’s 15-acre geothermal lake, are among the features that visitors will see. The use of the geothermal lake is expected to save the hospital $1 million annually over conventional heating and cooling costs.

ELGIN, IL – Sherman Hospital will host a community open house on December 6 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm to celebrate the December 15 landmark opening of its new hospital and its 154-acre campus. The hospital is organizing 25- and 60-minute tours of the new facility throughout the open house.

Midwest Construction Magazine has placed the Sherman Hospital replacement campus project in Elgin, Illinois, eighth on its list of Top 20 Project Starts.

The $310 million project, which is located on a 154-acre site, includes a 650,000 s.f. hospital facility and a 100,000 s.f. medical office building.

One innovative aspect of the project is a fifteen-acre manmade geothermal lake, which is projected to generate substantial energy savings for hospital operations.

Shepley Bulfinch is working with associate architects Loebl, Schlossman & Hackl of Chicago on the Sherman project, which is scheduled for completion in 2009.

CONCORD, NH – Concord Hospital has been awarded LEED certification for its East & North Wing addition and renovation, the first hospital in northern New England to do so.

The project’s design maximizes daylight and views with green roofs and courtyard gardens while skylights bring light deep into treatment spaces. The canopied entrance includes a waiting area that overlooks a garden and the drop-off area and a roof garden that is accessible from the ICU. Design is now underway for Bridgeport Hospital’s Park Avenue Campus Outpatient Center in Trumbull, which will provide a new level of access to quality outpatient care in southwestern Connecticut.

The center’s range of services will include a comprehensive cancer center, including medical oncology and radiation services and a breast care center, ambulatory surgery, gastroenterology services, full service radiology, a Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Specialty Center, rehabilitation, and other physician offices. The new facility will create a welcoming, accessible outpatient care campus, joining two existing buildings that house radiation oncology and medical offices, in a park-like suburban setting.
