Saint Peter’s College breaks ground on student center

Saint Peter’s College broke ground on the MacMahon Student Center October 26 in a ceremony attended by members of the college community and civic and political leaders.

In his remarks, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healey noted that the 84,000 s.f. building would be transformative not only as Saint Peter’s first student center, but also in its wider role in the revitalization of McGinley Square and Jersey City.

Hamline breaks ground on new University Center

With hard hats on and shovels in hand, students, faculty, alumni, and donors broke ground on Hamline University’s new University Center today at the site for the new building, on the southwest edge of Hamline’s campus in St. Paul, Minnesota.  University President Linda Hanson announced that the building would be named the Carol Young Anderson and Dennis Anderson University Center, in honor of the project’s lead donors.

Milestone for Anderson Student Center

A symbolic ‘topping off’ ceremony on November 4  marked the installation of the last piece of structural steel for the Anderson Student Center at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The 240,000 square foot project, which is scheduled to open in early 2012, will replace many of the services currently housed in the university’s Murray-Herrick Campus Center.

Anderson Student Center begins construction

Construction begins today for the Anderson Student Center at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

“The student center will serve as a wonderful gathering place that will tie together our north and south campuses,” said Father Dennis Dease, president. Jane Canney, vice president for student affairs, called the center “our living room – the real heart of the campus.”

Go-ahead for St. Thomas student center

The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, has given the green light for construction of the 210,000 s.f. Anderson Student Center, with plans to complete the project by the end of 2011.

The center will draw students crossing from the Quad into a lively three-story atrium filled with light and activity (image, right). Jane Canney, the University’s vice president of student affairs, said, “The student center will be our living room… the real heart of the campus.”¯

Hamline University names Shepley for University Center project

ST PAUL, MN – Hamline University has selected Shepley Bulfinch as the architect of its new University Center, to be sited on a prominent corner of Hamline’s campus in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The 75,000-85,000 s.f. center will give the University a new welcoming face to the St. Paul community and a campus crossroads for Hamline, with its large commuter student population. It will include a campus ‘living room’, casual dining facilities, event space, a bookstore, and offices for student organizations.

Shepley Bulfinch will work with Hamline to create a sustainable building that will meet the equivalent of LEED Silver standards.

The project is planned for completion in late 2011.

Kanbar Campus Center wins design excellence award

The Kanbar Campus Center at Philadelphia University was one of four student centers to receive the 2007 Facility Design Award of Excellence at the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) annual conference in Atlanta last month.

Entries were judged not only on the basis of the facilities’ appearance, but also on the process used to arrive at the design and how the new or renovated facility has impacted the campus.
