Shepley Bulfinch names 2011 Summer Design Fellow

Wednesday, 11 May 2011

Shepley Bulfinch has selected Susannah Cramer-Greenbaum of the University of Michigan as the firm’s 14th annual Summer Design Fellow. She was chosen for the ten-week Fellowship from a field of close to 100 candidates from the country’s top design schools.

Susannah received her Master’s degree in architecture earlier this month. Her graduate thesis, “Face Value,” explores the aesthetics for the mediation of post-industrial sites. She examined the re-use and re-purposing of former industrial sites in ways that preserve both our industrial legacy and our relationship with the natural environment.

Shepley Bulfinch 2010 Quote Cards

Wednesday, 3 February 2010

These cards can also be used individually as bookmarks or pinned up for a daily dose of inspiration. A PDF of the cards can be downloaded here.

The format was inspired by the Eames House of Cards designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1952. The original 32 interlocking cards featured ...[more]

Meditation room, University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center

The Meditation Room creates an island of repose, a compelling counterpoint to the powerful medicine practiced at the University of Michigan’s Cardiovascular Center. The design creates a piece of architecture and art that gives form to the desire of the Center’s in-house ministry for a space to nourish the human spirit that would be active, meditative, and non-denominational. Narrow niches in the limestone wall are backlit using fiber-optics to give the impression of filtered daylight. A writing desk nearby holds paper and pencil so that visitors can write down their thoughts, prayers, and notes ...[more]
