Carole Wedge: this week’s AIA Architect “Doer’s Profile”

Shepley Bulfinch president Carole Wedge was in the spotlight as this week’s “Doer’s Profile” in AIArchitect, the weekly online newsletter of the American Institute of Architects.

In her interview with Sara Fernandez Cendon, Carole talks about women in architecture and the value of a diversity of perspectives in design. In 2004, Carole became the firm’s first female president, and today is a member of the AIA’s Large Firm Roundtable. She is speaking at the AIA Women’s Leadership Summit in Chicago in September.

Principal Elise Woodward was quoted in an article on the evolving challenges facing women in architecture in the current issue of the Boston Business Journal.

The second woman architect to join the firm when she was hired in 1981, Elise served as a member and chair of Shepley Bulfinch’s Board of Directors She noted the firm’s commitment to a shift in leadership – and firmwide – demographics that have led to a virtually even gender balance among principals and staff as a whole.

Boston, MA – Elise Woodward, AIA LEED AP, was honored at Build Boston today, where she received the Award of Excellence at the eighth annual Women in Design conference.

The second woman architect at Shepley Bulfinch when she joined in 1981 and the third to be named a principal, Elise is a designer, mentor, and convener. As a leader of the firm, she served for six years on its five-member board of directors, four as board chair. Her rich and varied experience directing and shaping science, education, and healthcare projects has included healthcare and academic science and research buildings from Maine to California.
