CINCINNATI, OH – As an article in the current issue of the Business Courier of Cincinnati notes, the building now under construction for Williams College of Business at Xavier will transform the school’s learning environment, but it won’t stop there. Xavier University’s Board of Trustees approved the construction of a new residence hall and dining facility at its quarterly meeting on December 11.

The residence hall will house 530 students in suite-style living. The 800-seat campus-wide dining facility replaces the Hoff Marketplace dining hall where students now take all their meals. The 240,000 s.f. complex is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2011. Providing housing for an additional 500 students has been a priority for Xavier as a response to increased enrollment.

In the article Maribeth Amyot, Xavier’s Vice President for Financial Administration, discusses the financial challenges of undertaking major construction at particularly volatile economic time, and the press in surging student enrollment. This fall the school saw a 26 percent increase in the size of the freshman class.

CINCINNATI, OH –Two prominent academic buildings now under construction will create a dramatic new gateway for the Jesuit university campus, according to today’s Cincinnati Business Courier.

The Williams College of Business and a Learning Commons are part of the first phase of construction of the Hoff Academic Quad, a project that Bob Sheeran, the university’s vice president for facilities management, told the Business Courier is “really a transformational project for the campus.”

The two 85,000 s.f buildings are being designed to LEED Silver standards with sustainable features including materials sourcing and selection, thermal and lighting controls, and a high-performance building envelope.

Bishop Fenwick Place, Xavier University’s new residential and dining complex, was dedicated last month in a ceremony that celebrated the transformational residence and dining complex on the Cincinnati campus.

Fenwick Place is home to 535 sophomores with suite-style living in four connected wings that rise above a green terrace. The terrace also serves as the roof of Hoff Dining Commons, the university’s new central dining facility. Shepley moved up the ranks of the country’s “Design Giants” in the results of a national survey just released by Building Design + Construction magazine. With an overall ranking at #27 in the annual survey, the firm came in 26th among university design firms and 48th among healthcare design firms. The magazine gives a shout-out to Marquette Law School with a photograph of the school’s Zilber Forum as the survey’s featured higher education project.
